Two Boleros in 2012, sixty-two vehicles today, and the same landline number. Here is how Attari Car Service works and who drives for us.
Attari Car Service began in 2012 in a one-room office in Siliguri, with two Boleros and a landline. The first customers were tea-estate managers who needed a reliable ride to Bagdogra and back. Word travelled, and by the third season we were running the Gangtok and Darjeeling corridors every day.
What changed since then is the size of the fleet. What did not change is the way we quote. A hill road punishes guesswork — a landslide adds two hours, a closed pass adds a hundred kilometres — so we learned to price honestly at the start rather than argue about it at the destination. Every fare we send out includes fuel, tolls, parking, state taxes and the driver's night allowance.
Today we run 62 vehicles with 48 drivers on the roll, covering Sikkim, the Darjeeling hills, the Bhutan gateway at Phuentsholing and the wider North East from Guwahati. The dispatch desk is staffed around the clock because flights land at 11pm and Yumthang sunrises start at 4am.
