Gangtok, Tsomgo & North Sikkim
NJP / Bagdogra → Gangtok → Lachung → Pelling → NJP
About this trip
Day-by-day plan
-
Day1
Arrive NJP / Bagdogra, drive to Gangtok
Our driver meets you at the station or airport with a name board and you head straight out on NH10, alongside the Teesta the whole way. A tea stop at Rangpo while the Sikkim entry formalities are done, then on to Gangtok. Check in, rest, and walk MG Marg in the evening — it is closed to traffic and easy to wander.

-
Day2
Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir and Nathu La (optional)
An early start for the climb to Tsomgo Lake at 12,400 ft, frozen in winter and ringed by prayer flags the rest of the year. Continue to Baba Mandir. Nathu La is an optional add-on and needs a separate permit applied for a day in advance; it is open Wednesday to Sunday and depends on the weather. Back in Gangtok by evening.
-
Day3
Gangtok to Lachung
A long and genuinely beautiful drive north through Chungthang, with the Seven Sisters and Naga waterfalls on the way and the valley narrowing as you climb. Permits are checked at Chungthang. Lachung is a small village at 8,600 ft — nights are cold and the power can be patchy, which is part of the charm.
-
Day4
Yumthang Valley, Zero Point, back to Gangtok
Out early for the Yumthang valley, the 'valley of flowers', with the Lachung Chu running through it and hot springs across the footbridge. Zero Point at 15,300 ft is an optional extra and stays snowbound most of the year. Return to Lachung for lunch and drive back down to Gangtok.
-
Day5
Gangtok to Pelling via Namchi
Cross to West Sikkim with stops at the Namchi Char Dham complex and the Samdruptse hilltop statue. Pelling is quiet and the reason to be here is the Kanchenjunga view at first light. Evening free.
-
Day6
Pelling sightseeing and drop at NJP / Bagdogra
Early Pelling Skywalk and Chenrezig statue, then the Rimbi falls and Khecheopalri lake on the way down if time allows. Drive back to the plains for your train or flight. Please keep at least three hours between the drop and your departure.
