How to plan North Sikkim: Lachung, Yumthang and Gurudongmar
Permits, altitude, road conditions and the two-night minimum that nobody tells you about until you are already tired.
A route that fits both towns without spending the holiday in traffic on Hill Cart Road.

Darjeeling and Kalimpong sit close on a map and far apart in character. Three days is enough for both if the route is sequenced properly instead of ping-ponging along Hill Cart Road.
Tiger Hill at sunrise, the tea gardens and the toy train in the same morning, then the mall and monasteries at a slower pace on day two. Keep the tea garden visit early in the day before the light gets flat.
One clean drive over to Kalimpong for its nurseries, monasteries and the quieter market town feel, then back down to Siliguri or on to your next stop. Doing the towns in sequence rather than back-and-forth is what keeps this a relaxed three days instead of a rushed one.
